Cree BearSkull // Montréal

The Cree hunters of Mistassini lake are respecting above all animal that they are hunting the Black Bear.
To pay respect to this highly regarded predator, the tradition is to attach his skull high on a tree. This custom helps to hunt him again in total respect.

During my stay in the community of Mistissini the idea of this painting emerged, since I couldn’t paint it there I found a proper spot, high enough to pay my respect to the Black Bear and to the people of Mistissini.
